RECAP POPCAP | A Book Toward a More Contemporary View of Africa | recap-popcap.ccPOPCAP, the Prize for Contemporary African Photography, is being offered for the fifth time in 2016. The prize consists of an artists residency and global exposure at major international photography exhibitions, and is aimed at photographers whose work engages with the African continent and/or a diaspora of an African country.In celebration of its fifth anniversary, POPCAP is planning to publish a book showcasing all 25 winning projects from the last five years. The book will also contain essays on the topic of contemporary African photography, written by POPCAP jury members who are currently moving and shaking things on the African continent. The book will reflect on the past and meditate on future movements within the realm of African photography, as well as offer an appraisal of the scene. It will be a soft cover book encased in fabric recycled from old POPCAP exhibitions prints. This means every book will be just as unique as the numerous faces of African photography we have had the pleasure of encountering over the past five years.In order to commence production of the book, we depend on your commitment. If we can collectively manage to fill the book with content and produce it, we will look forward to celebrating this success and in particular this milestone for POPCAP with you at our opening.
