Last week, standing at Cape Town International Airport, bright eyed and bushy tailed, our South African team warmly welcomed the long-awaited dogs coming in all the way from Cambodia. Gamora, Shadow, Falcon, Drax, and Maximoff are all survivors of a harrowing journey from a Cambodian slaughterhouse van to a loving home, with help from you and the support of our shelter partner TEARS Animal Rescue in Cape Town In February 2021, local authorities intercepted a minivan carrying 61 live dogs en route to a Cambodian slaughterhouse. Thanks to a law passed in July 2020 banning the dog meat trade in Siem Reap, and FOUR PAWS relentless advocacy, these five lives, along with 56 others, were spared from the clutches of cruelty. Despite tireless efforts, we were unable to find homes locally for these five dogs, so we decided to undertake these efforts to bring them to South Africa.
