In this edition of Tarikh, Nikhil narrates the story of how Vasco Da Gama reached India. Born around 1460, Vasco da Gama, the Portuguese nobleman sailed from Lisbon on July 8, 1497, and arrived at Kozhikode (then Calicut) on May 20, 1498. Along the way Vasco da gama made several stops and tried to establish trade relations with islands in the Indian ocean. The ruler of Calicut Zamorin also heartily received the portuguese envoy but negotiations failed and vasco da gama had to return without a trade pact.
