Disastrous start from Vipers makes it easy for Raja in victory to open Group C, Poor goalkeeping handed Raja CA a dominant 5-0 victory over Ugandan champions Vipers SC on Friday in Casablanca to open up play in Group C of the 2022-23 CAF Champions League. Five different players for Raja scored and the Green Eagles were up by three goals before forty minutes had elapsed, helped by a nervous start from CAFCL group stage debutants Vipers. Raja face a difficult trip to Dar es Salaam for their second match at Tanzanian club Simba SC while Vipers prepare to host Guineas Horoya AC next weekend.Raja have encountered issues with scoring this season but a poor performance from Vipers goalkeeper Alfred Mudekereza made finding the net easy for the hosts. The opening goal in the fifth minute came out of nowhere when Raja forward Hamza Khabba hopefully flicked a pass from Jamal Harkass towards the goal, catching Mudekereza off guard as he scrambled back and pushed the ball into the net.Harkass was next to benefit in the eleventh minute, turning into an unguarded net after Mudekereza spilled a Zakaria Habti free kick. There was little the embattled goalkeeper could do to keep out Rajas third goal in the 38th minute when forward Yousri Bouzok got free on the right wing and crossed low for Mohamed Zridas first time shot into the corner.
